Standing tall and straight in the field, Burton the Scarecrow proudly watched over the crops in Farmer Green’s garden. He also cares for the little birds and animals nearby, giving his all to help them find shelter for the winter. When springtime comes, Burton’s kindness is repaid as friendship comes full circle…
Burton is a kind, lonely scarecrow who takes his responsibilities seriously. His job is watch over the garden and keep the crops safe from the animals. When animals come to take something, he offers something of his own in place of it. In the end, he has done so much for them, that he is suffering. Thankfully, his new friends come along to help with his condition.
This is a great book for children of all ages. Our 4 1/2 year old really enjoyed and can’t wait to read this again. The book teaches children about friendship, character, gardening, and farming. I love the emphasis on friendship that shows the give and take of relationships.
These followup books will be available throughout 2013:
Burton’s Friendship Garden
Burton’s Harvest Party
Burton and the Christmas Tree
Burton Helps Dixie Duck
